The INTERPLAY Competition is brought to you by THE DESIGN EDUCATION TRUST. It is for creative students studying in the UK to propose engaging ‘avant-garde’ kinetic designs.

We invited students to challenge the normal with their disruptive design proposals for bringing elegant movement into the built environment.  Proposals could be from speculative consumer products that incorporate elegant motion in their forms, architecture with beautiful moving structures, fashion garments with changing features, to expressive and dynamic experimental sculptures.

The final £8K AWARD went to “URBAN ELEGANCE” – a whimsical pedestrian crossing design. A working prototype is exhibited in the HOCKNEY GALLERY of the RCA (Kensington) between 15th-19th July 2024. Mon-Thurs 4pm-8pm and 12-2pm Friday. All welcome.
